On Asking The Runes
Some Christians say, "Jesus is the answer". Fern Green, however, thinks we should consider a more primal issue: "What is the question?" When you are going into a Rune reading, it's important to consider what your expectations are.
Runic lore tells us of the importance in how we approach the oracle. The legendary Havamal asks us,
Do you know how to write; do you know how to read,
Do you know how to paint; do you know how to prove,
Do you know how to ask; do you know how to offer,
Do you know how to send; do you know how to sacrifice?
This reminds Rune magicians, readers, and querents of the importance of mindfulness and personal responsibility.
What a Rune Reading will do for you
There are fortune-telling games and playthings for parties, but for the serious seeker, there are the mighty Runes! A Rune reading will provide you with a spiritual road map, a sort of "You Are Here" on the landscape of life. The Runes will give you some insights and let you know what your options might include. Then it is up to you to make good use of that information. It's crucial to keep an open mind when you have a Rune reading. Be ready to hear what the oracle has to say, even if it is not exactly what you had expected. The job of the Rune reader is to be honest, not to provide escapism, paint glamouries, or fulfill fantasies. |

The Runes will often uncover hidden areas of your life, which you might not have thought to ask about. The same holds true for Tarot readings and other methods of divination. Our personal agenda is not always the same as the Divine agenda; nor is Divine time the same as our concept of time. Be assured, however, that the Divine agenda and pace works out for the higher good of all involved.
What a Rune Reading will not do
The Runes will not tell your future in the sense of saying something like, "There is a tall, dark, handsome woman on your doorstep, with whom you shall wed and beget many children." Nor will Runes predict death dates or lotto numbers. Neither Runes nor any other divination method will substitute good decision-making and personal responsibility. Runes do not provide medical advice or diagnoses, or legal advice. You should always consult a qualified professional on legal, medical, and other issues. The Runes can be a source of comfort and strength as you follow through on these and other necessary decisions in life.
Runes will indicate trends, but do not always make specific predictions. Your future experiences are constantly being woven, interacting with the threads of your past karma and current decisions. The Runes can, however, provide you with tools to make proper use of every situation, and find the best in whatever life brings you.
Another thing to remember is that sometimes we are not meant to know everything at once. Though it may cause a little dismay at first, the answer to some questions is "You cannot know the answer right now." When this is the case, it is for your highest good. Sometimes you do not need to know the details of a given situation – or another person's life.
