Fern Green's Runic Journey

Fern Green's early childhood was spent in the small town of Green River, Utah. Known as Watermelon Capitol of the World, the rustic environment provided a perfect peaceful setting for this budding metaphysical worker.
At the young age of six, Fern's first occult work was with the Egyptian cat Goddess Bast. Her freethinking father Mozen Greezin, having noted her affinity for felines, gave her a history book that introduced her to Bast and the Egyptian magico-religious tradition. This led to an exploration of cat magic and animal totems, the first of many mystical explorations for the young Fern.

Later in Fern's childhood, her family relocated to the scenic milieu of Wayne, New Jersey where Fern encountered the sage and innovative magician Reltny Alvarez. One of many intellectuals visiting during her parents' poetry readings and tea parties, Alvarez introduced Fern to the use of magickal sigils and symbols. His influence on Fern would continue to resonate throughout the years.

Upon the family's return to the Rocky Mountains in 1988, Fern began applying herself to magick in earnest with applied studies of moon ceremonies, protective magick and talismans. During her teenage years, she formed a coven with the beautiful and mysterious sorceress known as Skye. Though they were not yet aware of the Runic tradition, Fern and Skye's practice paralleled certain Runic concepts with the extensive use of magical symbols and language. Fern would learn of Runes and the Northern Tradition as she entered her twenties, and would end up working with the god Thor and his wife the grain goddess Sif.

After the tragic demise of magical colleagues Skye in 1993 and Reltny Alvarez shortly afterward the same year, Fern Green took a lengthy retreat from society. During this time, she delved into the mysterious and long misunderstood art of communication with the dead. This would lead her to the departed musician and tree shaman, Blind Aouhl Krishnawilsahn, known in the entertainment world as Blind Owl Wilson of 1960s blues-rock outfit Canned Heat. Fern spend the late 1990s researching and writing Krishnawilsahn's biography, now available in book form under the pen name Rebecca Davis Winters.

Having provided a variety of reading and divination services professionally since her teenage years, Fern began teaching Runes and related divinatory arts in 2004 on a larger scale. Local requests led to public classes, and Fern has taught groups as small as two and as large as fifty.

However, Fern emphasizes the fact that there is always more to learn about Runes, and that she herself learns more about them with each class and workshop she facilitates. She is constantly continuing and furthering her own Runic education by seeking out other Runic practitioners and teachers who have wisdom to offer. Nobody can have the final say on these Runes, for their energies are dynamic and can vary with each one of us. Fern Green encourages all of her students to soak up the wisdom of others and apply themselves to solid knowledge of the Runes, but keep their minds open for the messages, the influences, the Runic power, that must be experienced first hand to be truly known.
